Microforms
All microforms (microfiche and microfilm) along with fiche
and film readers are located in the basement of Burling
(southwest corner). Some microforms are located in the Kistle
Science Library as well. The Grinnell College Libraries
replace most newspaper subscriptions with microfilm copies
after three months. Back issues of the Scarlet & Black and Grinnell Herald-Register are also available on microfilm as well as in paper. The libraries have specific collections
on microfilm such as the Black Panther Papers, The Jane
Addams Papers, and Black Biographical Dictionaries; the
libraries also have a small number of individual titles
on microform. Many government documents are available only
on microfiche as well. In the catalog record the location
will show as “microfiche” or “microfilm.”
To make this material accessible, we have multiple fiche
and film readers. We also have one reader-scanner, which makes scans of images that can then be printed or saved. Inquire at the reference desk or circulation desk in Burling if you would like someone to show you how to use any of the readers available in the microform room.
