Burling has several groups of computers for general use.
All computers have access to networked printers. Choose
printers with names that begin with “LIB†to print to a
Burling printer.
Wireless access
Wireless access is available in Burling. There are wireless
ports in various locations throughout the building. In
some locations access is blocked by architectural features.
Computers must be registered (go to: http://www.grinnell.edu/its/wireless/
) with the campus network in order to use wireless services.
Basement
The IIF (Interactive Instructional Facility) is a PC based classroom. It includes GIS hardware
and software with instructional usage given priority over
general computing usage. Specialized CD-ROM databases are installed.
1st floor
Apple Computers are located near Current Periodicals
and are available for library research including Internet
searching and e-mail. These computers DO NOT have the
Microsoft Office Suite installed.
PCs in the Index Alcove are available for library research
including access configured for specialized CD ROM databases;
Internet searching and e-mail. Campus visitors should
ask for a guest login at the Circulation Desk. Workstations
4-7 have the standard software packages installed. Workstation 7 has an attached scanner.
2nd Floor
The second floor computing area has general use computers
that include standard software packages. Logins are required
on all PCs (guests should ask for the guest login at the
Circulation Desk)
Apple computers are available for library research including
Internet searching , word processing, and e-mail. These computers DO NOT have the Microsoft Office Suite installed.
3rd Floor
PCs in carrels on the North side of the building
are general use computers and include standard software
packages. Logins are required on all PCs (guests should
ask for the guest login at the Circulation Desk)
One Apple computer is available for library research
including Internet searching and e-mail. This computer
DOES NOT have the Microsoft Office Suite installed.
4th Floor
One Apple computer is available for library research
