The scanner can be used only on Workstation #11. However, you may operate Workstation #11 via Robotel from any workstation in the classroom.
Click on the "HP PrecisionScanPro" icon on the desktop.
Place material to be scanned in the scanner.
Once the ScanPro software is open, press the "Scan" icon (on the left hand corner of the toolbar) which looks like a scanner.
If Text
Under "Scan" is the option "Save as Whole Page."
A window comes up asking if you would like to save this as a .rtf (Rich Text File).
Type in a name for the file
The scanner will then begin to do a more detailed scanning and convert the characters to text. This uses a program called OmniPage which is an OCR or Optical Character Recognition. When this is complete, you may open the file in a Word Processor such as Word or WordPerfect. The OCR is not 100% accurate and you should expect some errors to occur. The software makes its best guess as to what a word, phrase or number might be.
If a graphic
Place material in the scanner and press the "Scan" icon.
The image will appear in the Scanning window.
Placing the cursor over the image will give you a cropping tool. Crop to size of the image (if smaller than the entire window).
Under Scan is the option, "Save as." Click. From this Save window, you be able to save as many different image formats, including the web ready .jpg and .gif formats. The scanner will do an additional scan and save your file.
The image may be opened in PhotoShop for additional manipulation: i.e. to play with the colors, have more precise cropping, etc.
