Off Campus Connectivity

Configuring Firefox for Off Campus Access on a PC

These instructions are for Firefox version 2.0 and above. We recommend that you download the latest version of Firefox (free download) if you do not have at least version 2.0.

We also have instructions for Firefox version 1.5.

To check which version of Firefox you have:

• Open Firefox.
• In the top menu bar, under Help, select About Mozilla Firefox.
• The major version is shown as a number followed by a decimal point (like 2.0), plus more numbers for the "minor" version. (You don't need to worry about the minor version.)

Configure Firefox 2.0 or Above for Off Campus Access

• Open Firefox.
• In the top menu bar, click Tools, and then click Options...

• In the Options menu that pops up, click Advanced and then click the Network tab.
• Click the Settings button under Connection, in the Network tab.

• In the Connection Settings menu that pops up, click the button next to Automatic proxy configuration URL.

• In the text box, type: http://cat.lib.grinnell.edu:8080/proxy.pac (It may be easier to copy and paste the URL from here.)
• Click Reload, click OK to close the Connection Settings menu, and click OK to close the Options menu.

Your browser should now be configured to access library resources from off campus. You do not need to restart your browser.

One more thing...
When you try to access a licensed resource, you will be prompted to type your campus username and password.
